Fundamentals of Islam
God is one. Worship one God. God is self-sufficient. He begets not, nor is He begotten. Forgiver of Sins, Acceptor of Repentance, Firm in Reckoning, Bestower of Favors.
To God we belong and to Him is our return. Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, Jesus, Muhammad, all messengers of God with one simple message: Submit to the will of God.
Muslims believe in Life after Death and the Day of Judgement. Mankind has Free Will and therefore every
one is responsible for their own actions.
The Quran, revealed in Arabic, is the final revelation from God, a Book of Guidance for Mankind.
All human are created equal. One is not superior to another because of race, gender, wealth, beauty or lineage, except for their piety (evidenced by actions).
The Decree of God is the belief that nothing happens without the knowledge and permission of Allah. A Muslim makes efforts to achieve certain goals but at the end of the day, would accept the outcome, favorable or not, as it is a decree from Allah and therefore beyond his control.
Encourage Good, forbid Evil. Establish Social Justice. Do not Transgress (do not kill, lie, cheat, oppress), free the bonded, take care of orphans, feed the hungry, do not backbite, honor your parents, be a good neighbor, give to charity.
The Quran…
Revealed over 1,400 years ago over a 23 year period has been preserved in Arabic. It contains 6,236 verses organized in 114 chapters. Quran has many historical predictions and scientific references proving that this book could not have been authored by a human. Muslims accept the Quran as the actual word of God and as a complete guidance for mankind. There is only Quran which has been memorized by millions and followed by billions of Muslims on a daily basis.
Shariah (Islamic Laws/Codes of Conduct)…
Is a set of Code of Conducts designed to preserve Faith, Life, Family, Wealth and Intellect of the Believers. The Sharia of a Muslim protects others from any harm due to human weaknesses. A Muslim must obey
the Law of the Land unless there is a direct conflict with the Shariah. A Muslim who follows Shariah will never harm another human being, an animal or the environment.
Jihad (Struggle)…
Is the struggle within oneself to do the right thing even if it is against one’s own desires for the pleasure of Allah (God). Jihad does not mean holy war. Islam forbids all oppressions and harming of innocents,
without any exceptions.
Hijab (Head Scarf)…
Refers to the head covering worn by many Muslim as well as non-Muslims women as part of modest clothing.
ISLAM literally means “Submission to the Will of God”. All Prophets from Adam to Muhammad, including Noah, Abraham, David, Moses and Jesus (Peace be upon all of them) preached ISLAM and were therefore Muslims. Islam is not a new faith but confirmation of all previous messages.
